Spark Racing Technology release pictures of Season 5 Formula E Cars

Spark Racing Technology has won the official tender submitted but the FIA to supply Formula E with its season five chassis from 2018 onwards. However, earlier this week saw the company releasing images of a concept car they hope to bring to life for the 2018-2019 season.

The successor of the SRT01 (the first version of the car), the new SRT05e represents a considerable progress in the world of electric racing.

In Season five, the cars must be able to travel at twice the distance that they do today. Therefore, Spark believes that they can help accomplish this by having a more efficient aero design, lower weight and better efficiency in the drive train.

Spark has had to find ways of making the chassis as light as possible, as the season five battery that will be developed by McLaren will be heavier than current battery made by Williams Advanced Engineering.

To counter the weight gains, Spark are working on new innovating solutions using new materials so the cars can be more efficient.

The design also includes a closed canopy, which Spark have included in order to ensure drivers are kept safe during high speed crashes and debris from vehicles in front of them.

Spark engineers took advantage of 4 years of Formula E championship to increase the performance of this new car; equipped with a futuristic design, the SRT05e will be much more powerful.
