GP2 Hungary Preview

23 July 2013

After a 3 week break, the GP2 Series continues this weekend in Hungary at the famous Hungaroring. The weather forecast is for very hot weather during the whole weekend and the temperature can get higher as high as 40 degrees. As the temperature is going to be very high, it means both of the races will be very challenging for tyres, but it will also be a big challenge for the drivers physically.

Pirelli will bring medium and soft tyre compounds for the weekend, which is the same compounds that Formula 1 will use during the same weekend. Tyres will play a big part as a very hot track temperature causes even more tyre wear. It will be very important to choose the right tyre strategy for Saturday’s race, and to take good care of the tyres especially in Sunday’s race.

Another challenge will be overtaking as the Hungaroring isn’t a very easy track to overtake at, but the GP2 boys usually know how to bring action for the viewers. There will be a grid penalty for this weekend’s qualifying for Daniel De Jong, he receives a 5 place penalty after Germany’s sprint race as he caused the collision with Stéphane Richelmi.

Rapax’s Stefano Coletti continues as the championship leader with 135 points going to Hungary, having Carlin’s Felipe Nasr behind him in 2nd place only 27 points behind. The championship table looks very interesting as Sam Bird is 3rd with Fabio Leimer only 2 points behind him, while Leimer has James Calado just 4 points behind. The championship can turn around this weekend and anything can happen. Make sure you tune in and watch as this entertaining championship continues.
