2016/17 Formula E Team Preview: Techeetah

Techeetah are the second new team in the FIA Formula E Championship for season three after taking over from Team Aguri after the London ePrix in July.

The team which was first known as the Amlin Aguri team in the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship, they were able to finish seventh out of ten teams. This was mainly thanks to Antonio Felix da Costa winning the 2014 Buenos Aires ePrix.

For the 2015/16 season, the team decided to use the first powertrain rather than develop their own. This then meant that Team Aguri sadly weren't able to compete for positions at the front of the grid. While Antonio Felix Da Costa stayed with the team for the full season, their second seat saw three different drivers driving during last season (the three drivers being Salvador Duran, Ma Qing Hua and Nathanel Berthon).

With rumours of a takeover were circulating during the latter stages of the 2015/16 season, it was announced before the final ePrix of the season that China Media Capital would be taking over from Aguri.

With the team now being branded as Techeetah starting this season; the team will be using Renault's powertrain for the upcoming season with Jean-Eric Vergne joining the team from the DS Virgin Racing team and Ma Qing Hua staying with the team.

My prediction for the Techeetah team in their debut season is that I really do think that the team will challenge at the midfield but not straight away. I feel that it could be a few races into the season that they will do this but I expect the team to encounter a few problems along the way.

With regards to their driver line up, I see both Vergne really pushing his team mate this season and I would have to say that it will be Vergne who comes out on top. I believe this given the fact that Vergne has more experience under his belt as driver and also within the series unlike Hua who I believe is there simply there for the money that he brings to the team.

As for their Constructors championship position; I would say that the Techeetah team will end up either ninth or tenth at the end of the season and will have a battle with Jaguar all season long.
