2016/2017 Formula E Calendar is announced

It was announced shortly before the London ePrix Qualifying this afternoon that the FIA Formula E series will have a 14 race calendar for the 2016/2017 season which will start in Hong Kong and will end in New York.

New York, which is still pending the final approval from local authorities, will be a double header on the 29-30th July to close out the season. Montreal will host the other doubleheader two weeks before the New York ePrix on the 15th-16th July.

Other new races that will feature on the calendar will be Marrakech and Brussels, and an esports race in Las Vegas which will take place on the January 7th.

In a statement to the media this morning, FIA President Jean Todt was delighted with the new calendar and feels it is a testament to how innovative Formula E is that it has attracted some of the most iconic cities in the world. Todt stated the following:-

“Today and tomorrow the finale of the second season of the FIA Formula E Championship takes place in London and already, the third season promises to be even more exciting. It will tackle a schedule that takes it to some of the most beautiful cities on no fewer than four continents, starting in Hong Kong and finishing in New York,”

“It's been less than two years since Formula E made its debut in Beijing and today it has staked its claim to being one of the most interesting and innovative championships on the current motorsport scene at a global level, which was not something that could have been taken for granted when it first began,” said Todt.

There are still two TBA events on the 22nd April and the 24th June. It is believed that the April date will be a possible race in Singapore and the June date could host the new London ePrix that Formula E are working hard on securing for next season.
