Yesterday evening, Daniel Abt has ended the second test session quickest, but the young German driver did not set the fastest lap of the day which went to Jean-Eric Vergne in the morning session.
As the session went green, there was a hive of activity as the drivers left the pit lane to start the afternoon session. Sam Bird led the early part of the session, but the times quickly began to tumble.
Audi Sport Abt and E.Dams focused on race runs for the majority of the day, as Sebastien Buemi and Lucas Di Grassi spent most of the session at the bottom of the timing screens.
Felix Rosenqvist who was also focusing on race runs throughout the majority of the session caused the first red flag. The Swedish driver stopped at the backend of the circuit and had to be recovered by the marshals.
Adam Carroll then emerged from the pit lane for Jaguar, as the British team started their race runs after being absence from the majority of the session.
However, the Brits running was cut short, as Jerome D'Ambrosio caused the second red flag of the session with an hour and 15 minutes to go in the session.
Stephane Sarrazin stopped on track before the entrance of the Melbourne loop, but the French driver was able to get the car moving again and made it back to the pits.
Overall Venturi have had a stronger day than yesterday, as they have had fewer reliability problems, as the team had completed 37 laps in the afternoon.
Bird continued to lead the session with 45 minutes remaining, as the British driver posted a time of 1:30:2 which was two-tenths faster than Loic Duval, but slower than the time set by Jean-Eric Vergne in the morning session.
Mitch Evans caused the third red flag after stopping on the start finish straight. Once the session resumed, Nicolas Prost and Daniel Abt had a mini battle for 1st place which was won by Abt with a 1:30:2 with Prost only managing a 1:30:3.
Shortly after Abt put in the fastest lap of the session, Ma Qing Hau stopped on track to cause another red flag with ten minutes left in the session. The session was not resumed as the marshalls recovered the car, which allowed Abt to end the day fastest.
