Dragon Racing's appeal has been rejected

It was announced early this morning that the Formula E season two teams' title has finally been settled, with fewer than two weeks to go before the start of the third season, after the FIA International Court of Appeal rejected Dragon Racing's case against DS Virgin Racing.

During the London ePrix weekend earlier this summer, Dragon appealed against the 50 second time penalty handed out to Jean-Eric Vergne for hitting 0% permitted energy at the chequered flag, seeking a more severe sanction for the DSVR squad.

A harsher penalty would have changed the number of points of offer for that race. As it stood, Dragon, had finished the season fourth in the teams'
championship on 143 points, just behind DS Virgin on 144.

Any change in points would have therefore moved Dragon up a position, which would have been good for sponsors and for the bank account, with the difference in those places reportedly being worth hundreds of thousands of pounds in prize money.

The International Court of Appeal hearing took place on 16 September 2016, with the FIA announcing yesterday that Dragon's appeal against Vergne had been rejected, deeming it “inadmissible”.

As a result of this verdict, the teams' standings for the 2015-16 season are now final, with DSVR confirmed in third place, ahead of Dragon.
