Felix Rosenqvist claims a fantastic first Formula E Pole Position for the Marrakesh ePrix

In qualifying ahead of the Marrakesh ePrix today, rookie Felix Rosenqvist claimed his first ever Formula E Super Pole ahead of Sebastien Buemi and Sam Bird in a thrilling and exciting qualifying session straight from the off that even saw Jean-Eric Vergne missing the pit lane time to start the Super Pole shootout.

As the qualifying session began, group one consisted of Jerome D'Ambrosio, Nico Prost, Antonio Felix da Costa, Ma Qing Hua and Jose Maria Lopez. As Lopez was building up to his flying lap, he locked up going into a corner but was able to continue running in the session.

With D'Ambrosio topping the timesheets first in group 1, this then didn't last long as Prost then went quickest with a lap time of 1.21.777 ahead of Antonio Felix Da Costa in second place, Jose Maria Lopez in third place, Jerome D'Ambrosio in fourth place and Ma Qing Hua in fifth place who had problems with his Teecheetah car during the session.

With Group 2 consisting of Stephane Sarrazin, Sebastien Buemi, Mitch Evans, Nick Heidfeld and Oliver Turvey, all of them will be chasing the time at Prost has set in the first five minutes of qualifying. With Buemi being the first driver to set a time in the group, this saw him in seventh place as he was building up to a 200kw lap as Heidfeld was the best of the group so far with third place.

But as the group was nearing the end of their time slot, Buemi pushed the limit and was quickest with a lap time of 1.21.350 ahead of his team mate Prost and Turvey in third place. Da Costa, Heidfeld, Lopez, Sarrazin, Evans, D'Ambrosio and Hua make up to the top ten as we headed into Group 3.

With Group 3 consisting of Maro Engel, Loic Duval, Lucas di Grassi, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Abt, all of them will be have been chasing the time set by Buemi in Group 2 of qualifying. Di Grassi was the first of the group to set a time that saw him in eleventh place as he built up to a 200kw lap.

However, Abt surpassed his team mate Di Grassi by finishing in second place as his team mate finished in sixth place. Engel had a good run to ninth place but it was Vergne who had the best run of the group and ended the session in P1, beating Buemi with a fantastic lap time of 1.20.993.

Vergne headed the drivers as we headed into the final group ahead of Buemi, Abt, Prost, Turvey, Da Costa, Heidfeld, Di Grassi, Lopez and Engel.

With the final group of qualifying consisting of Sam Bird, Nelson Piquet Jr, Felix Rosenqvist, Robin Frijns and Adam Carroll. The first driver to set a time in the group was Rosenqvist who was in second place who had a brilliant lap to get there with him wringing everything he could from the car.

As we headed into the final stages of the final group for qualifying, Bird was pushing the limits once again in order to qualify for Super Pole and did a lap time to get himself into the shootout as did Piquet Jr with a great lap to fifth place. But sadly Adam Carroll struggled to get onto the pace in the Jaguar Racing car and had an off on the circuit too.

As we headed into the final stages of qualifying with Super Pole, Vergne, Rosenqvist, Buemi, Bird and Piquet Jr enter the shootout for the Super Pole and looks to be an exciting few minutes as we see which driver would claim Pole Position ahead of the Marrakesh ePrix later this afternoon.

Piquet Jr went first and he missed the corner which will have cost him time. But nothing will have cost him time as when he locked up and missed a corner slightly further on into the lap which ended his quest for Pole Position.

Bird was then next onto the track as he was building up to a 200kw flying lap and lead the group at this stage of the session as Buemi is next up ready to show what he can do and he managed to beat Bird despite giving away time in Turn 1 and also a little tiny bit into Sector 3.

With Rosenqvist and Vergne left to run in the group; all eyes will be upon the young Swedish rookie and the more experienced JEV to see if they can take away the Pole Position from Buemi. But Rosenqvist yet again impresses everyone in the paddock with a stonker of a lap that saw him leading the grid as Vergne started his quest to try and claim Pole Position. But Vergne missed the time to get out of the pitlane and was not allowed to run in the Super Pole shootout.

But it was Felix Rosenqvist who claimed his first ever Formula E Pole Position for the Marrakesh ePrix with a lap time of 1.21.509 ahead of Sebastien Buemi who was 0.037 seconds behind in second place but was ahead of Sam Bird who was 0.177 seconds behind in third place.

Nelson Piquet Jr qualified in fourth place ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne in fifth place, Daniel Abt in sixth place, Nico Prost in seventh place, Oliver Turvey in eighth place, Robert Frijns in ninth place and Antonio Felix Da Costa who rounded off the top ten finishers of the session.

Nick Heidfeld qualified just out of the top ten in eleventh place ahead of Lucas Di Grassi in twelfth place, Jose Maria Lopez in thirteenth place, Maro Engel in fourteenth place and Stephane Sarrazin in fifteenth place.

As we head into the final stages of the grid, Mitch Evans qualified in sixteenth place ahead of Jerome D'Ambrosio in seventeenth place, Ma Qing Hua in eighteenth place, Loic Duval in ninteenth place ad Adam Carroll in twentieth place
