Lewis Hamilton claims Pole Position for the Bahrain GP

In qualifying in Bahrain yesterday, Lewis Hamilton claimed Pole Position for the Bahrain Grand Prix ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.

Before Q1 could even begin, we had a queue of drivers headed by Vettel who wanted to get out on the track in order to set a lap time straight from the off in order to avoid being eliminated.

Q2 saw the battle for the midfield become ever more loser with the surprise of the session being Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean ending the session in ninth place. Also Stoffel Vandoorne did a great job for McLaren-Honda and qualified in twelfth place ahead of his team mate and has been the best Belgian driver in qualifying in recent times but didn't beat the tenth place at the 1992 Japanese GP which was set by Thierry Bousten.

But it was Lewis Hamilton who took his fifty-first Pole Position of his career ahead of the Bahrain GP with a lap time of 1.29.493 ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg in second place who was 0.077 seconds behind him and ahead of Sebastian Vettel in third place who was 0.519 seconds behind Hamilton.

Kimi Raikkonen finished the session in fourth place ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in fifth place, Valtteri Bottas in sixth place, Felipe Massa in seventh place and Nico Hulkenberg in eighth place.

Romain Grosjean qualified in a brilliant ninth place ahead of Max Verstappen who rounded off the top ten finishers of the grid for tomorrow's race. Carlos Sainz Jr ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne in twelfth place, Esteban Gutierrez in thirteenth place, Jenson Button in fourteenth place and Daniil Kvyat in fifteenth place.

As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Pascal Wehrlein qualified in sixteenth place ahead of Marcus Ericsson in seventeenth place and ahead of Sergio Perez in eighteenth place. Kevin Magnussen ended the session in nineteenth place ahead of Jolyon Palmer in twentieth place, Rio Haryanto in twenty-first place and Felipe Nasr in twenty-second place.
