In the first practice session in Monza, Nico Rosberg set the pace ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen as Mercedes pick up where they left off at Belgium last weekend.
In a straight-forward FP1 session, it was Nico Rosberg who was fastest with a lap time of 1:22.959 ahead of Lewis Hamilton in second place who was 0.203 seconds behind him and ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in third place who was 1.088 seconds behind Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel finished the session in fourth place ahead of Sergio Perez in fifth place, Romain Grosjean in sixth place, Valtteri Bottas in seventh place, Max Verstappen in eighth place, Esteban Gutierrez in ninth place and Daniel Ricciardo who rounded off the top ten finishers.
Jenson Button ended the session in eleventh place ahead of Alfonso Celis Jr in twelfth place, Fernando Alonso in thirteenth place, Felipe Massa in fourteenth place and Marcus Ericsson in fifteenth place.
As we head into the latter stages of the grid, Carlos Sainz Jr ended the session in sixteenth place ahead of Daniil Kvyat in seventeenth place, Esteban Ocon in eighteenth place, Felipe Nasr in nineteenth place, Pascal Wehrlein in twentieth place, Jolyon Palmer in twenty-first place and Kevin Magnussen in twenty-second place.
