Our tours to Ireland and Canada got a lot of positive feedback about the shorter driving days and the extra luxury, and as so many of you have asked us to run an Alpine tour with those features we felt obliged to do just that.
So- we're going for all 4* and 5* hotels, slightly shorter driving days, and we're going all the way to the Adriatic coast. Yes, we're going to Croatia! We're also including 2 nights in our seaside luxury hotel in Croatia with a day off in between - though we will include some ideas of what to do during that “day offâ€.
Saturday - Join us for an early breakfast whilst we talk you through the events of the forthcoming week. From here it's just a 15 minute drive to the Eurotunnel and then we're off into a new adventure. Today we will get some boring stuff out of the way, with an easy drive across northern France to the Vosges mountains near the German border.
Sunday - From our lovely waterside hotel in Molsheim, we head into Germany and across the Black Forest before using the superb autobahn network to get us into Austria. Our overnight stop is the tallest hotel in Innsbruck, a beautiful old city which sits within a bowl, surrounded on all sides by majestic mountains.
Monday - We leave Innsbruck and head to the Grossglockner High Alpine road (pictured above), arguably the best driving road in Austria (but by no means the only one) on our way to Slovenia and our waterside hotel at the magnificent Lake Bled.
Tuesday - No need for an early start today, we've got a very short drive from Lake Bled to our beachside hotel on the Adriatic coast in Croatia, near the island of Krk and just south of the jewel known as Rijeka.
Wednesday - Rest day.
Yes, we have two nights in the hotel pictured above- so the day in between is a free day.
Now whilst you could go for a drive along the coast road (which is lovely), or up to Rijeka (which is lovely), you could also take a 2 hour drive inland to the absolutely stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park (which is -.. lovely!)
Thursday - Today we say goodbye to the Mediteranean coast as we leave Croatia and head into Italy, passing Cortina on the way to Bolzano.
Friday - An easy run again today through the Dolomites (more mountains!) on our way back to Germany and the charming town of Friedrichshafen, on the shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee).
Saturday - Another quick zip through the Black Forest on our way back to France, where we'll be overnighting near Troyes - and we've included a final night meal delivered in fabulous surroundings by a Michelin starred chef.
Sunday - Finally we'll have a stop at the Reims grandstand for a photo op before heading back to the Eurotunnel to return to good old Blighty.
